A Fall Family Photo Session at Quiet Waters Park

Military Family Photography in Annapolis, Maryland

As a military family ourselves, when we have the honor of capturing a military family, it tends to feel all the more personal. The Reed family’s fall photo session at Quiet Waters Park was exactly that.

This session marked their first fall in Annapolis after welcoming their daughter and relocating from Florida. The photo session was simple way to document where life has landed them for now.

Why Quiet Waters Park Is Perfect for Military Family Photos

Quiet Waters Park is one of my favorite locations for family photography in Annapolis, especially in the fall. The trails wind through tall trees that turn golden and copper, the water sits calmly in the background, and there’s space for kids to move without feeling staged or rushed.

For military families in the DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia area, locations like this offer a peaceful atmosphere that is a little removed from the constant motion of orders, schedules, and countdown calendars.

The Reed family leaned right into that. Nothing overly posed. Plenty of walking, laughing, and those in-between moments that happen when a family is simply being themselves.

A Navy Family, Gifted a Moment to Remember

This session was especially meaningful because it was gifted to the Reeds by their realtor, my friend Dania, who helped them find their new home after their move from Florida. Instead of a bottle of wine or a generic housewarming present, she chose something lasting: a one-hour family photo session.

That gift told them, “Your story matters here.”

And honestly, that’s the kind of welcome every military family deserves.

Why Fall Family Photos Matter After a PCS Move

Military families experience seasons differently. Fall isn’t just about cooler weather and changing leaves. It’s often about settling in, rebuilding community, and helping kids feel rooted again.

A family photo session becomes a visual anchor. Proof of a chapter beginning. Something tangible to send back to family, to frame in a new home, to look at years later and remember, “That was when Annapolis became ours.”

For Navy families stationed in or around Annapolis, DC, or the greater Metro area, documenting these moments is part of preserving the story that unfolds between duty stations.

For any family photo session we do, I always try to get portraits of the parents together without any children. It’s a little thing I like to do, so that the couple could have a photo of themselves and later, their children can have a nice photo of their parents.

A Note for Realtors, Friends, and Family: Photo Sessions Make Incredible Gifts

If you’re a realtor working with military families in Maryland or the DC area, or a friend welcoming someone new to town, consider gifting a professional photo session.

Gift certificates are available and can be tailored for:
• Military families relocating to the area
• Home closing gifts
• Fall or holiday family photos
• Anniversaries, deployments, or homecomings

Unlike most gifts, photos don’t get packed away or forgotten. They grow more meaningful with time.

Military Family Photography in Annapolis & the Metro DC Area

I photograph military families throughout Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Southern Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. As a military spouse myself, I understand the pace, the uncertainty, and the deep importance of preserving the seasons in between.

If you’re new to the area, settling into a new duty station, or looking for a meaningful gift for a military family you love, I’d be honored to help tell that story.

Gift certificates and session information are available, please reach out to purchase one.
