One Good Photo - Fall Family Photo Session, Prince Frederick, MD

Fall is the perfect season for family photos. I recently photographed a beautiful family with three young girls, including a set of twins. One of the first things Rae and Niko told me when they rolled up for their fall family photo session in Prince Frederick, MD, was that they needed "just one good photo." while acknowledging the difficulty they thought they’d have trying to keep their girls still and focused for a prolonged period. I smiled and said, that I understood the assignment, and that their assignment was to relax and just focus on how much you love these little people and we’ll get the shot. As a parent, I understand how family photo sessions can be stressful for everyone involved. That is why our approach is to create a relaxed and natural atmosphere that feels more like a fun-filled playdate with Mom & Dad than a formal photo session.

Every moment counts when young children are involved, so I'm all about working quickly if needed. But I'm also down with taking breaks and letting the little ones lead the way. We let the girls explore their surroundings, play around, and just be themselves so I can capture the genuine joy, love, and connection that define their family dynamic. I aim to create photos that capture the personalities and silliness that come hand in hand with small children while also getting that perfect classically posed picture for your Christmas card. That way, you can look back on these photos years from now and remember how crazy-wonderful and absolutely chaotic your life is.

As we strolled around, I encouraged the girls to have fun and be themselves while I snapped away at their most adorable moments. We tried different poses and backgrounds, but the best shots were the ones where the girls did their thing.

Ultimately, I got that one "good photo" and several more images that perfectly captured the love and joy Rae and Niko shared with their beautiful family. And that, my friends, is what family photos are all about.
